'OF' and 'OFF'

Difference between the use of 'OF' and 'OFF'

Use of 'OF'

1. It is used to show the belonging of someone or something-
For Ex-  1. This is a lid of the small container.
2. These are the pages of the book.

2. It is used to denote about something-
For Ex- 1. He told me a story.
              2. He told me about his travel.

3. It is used in denoting the material that is used to make something-
 For Ex- 1. This glass is made of gold.
               2. Bed-sheet is made of cotton.

4. It is used to denote the 'unit' or 'measurement' of something- 
For Ex- 1. They ate a slice of bread.
              2. Ram bought a dozen of Bananas.

5. It is used in the case of disease when it becomes the cause of death-
For Ex- 1. He is died of Typhoid.
              2. Shyam is died of cancer.

6. It is used in the 'case of Apposition'-
For Ex- 1. Delhi, the capital of India, is very beautiful.
           
7. It is used to show the connection or relation of something-
For Ex- 1. The Director of this university is a very kind.
              2. The Principal of this school is very co-operative.


Use of 'OFF'

1. It is used when something is not in continue of something-
For Ex- 1. Switch off the TV.
              2. Turn off the tap.

2. It is used to show the completeness of something-
For Ex- 1. Class is off now.

3. It is used to show when something is not in good( not functioning well)-
For Ex- 1. My mood is off today.

4. It is used when something is removed from the surface-
For Ex- 1. I am wiping off the screen.
              2. Monkey jumped off the tree.
